Cantonese Opera: A Performance

2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Central Library

Description

Rooted in Guangdong and Guangxi of south China with a history of more than 400 years, Cantonese Opera (also known as Yueju Opera) is characterized by an organic combination of vocal singing, string and percussion music, abstract gestures and movements, as well as martial arts.

Join us for a very special performance of excerpts from some of the most well-known classics of Cantonese Opera. The three performers, Po Fai Frances Wong, Chak Lui Chan, and Chin Mei Law, are professional Cantonese Opera performers from Hong Kong. Dressed in full costumes and face paint, these performers will demonstrate the splendour of Cantonese Opera.

And, join us on January 27 for an informative lecture and demonstration of the essentials of Cantonese Opera.
