Lady in the Lighthouse: The Catherine Gallagher Story

1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Captain William Spry Public Library

Description

Presented by storyteller and singer, Cindy Campbell-Stone.

Catherine Gallagher (the Lady in the Lighthouse) was one of the main sources for local folklorist Dr. Helen Creighton’s ground-breaking research. This performance contains various stories from Catherine’s life, and eight of the forty songs that she sung for Helen.

Catherine lived in a lighthouse at Chebucto Head, near the mouth of Halifax Harbour. A former teacher, she was ready to settle down and raise a family when a house fire, an explosion, and two World Wars turned her life upside-down.

Join us to listen to Catherine’s songs and learn about her life. A Q&A session with Cindy will follow.
