Jim Maloney: Martial Arts Master from Sipe’kneketik

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Bedford Public Library

Description

Join us for a special talk with Jim Maloney - 10th-degree Black Belt, Martial Arts Master, and Sipekne'katik District Warrior Chief - as he shares stories from his remarkable life and career.

Jim grew up in the Sipekne'katik First Nation and moved to Boston at the age of 16, where he began training in karate, even training with legendary Bruce Lee.

He went on to become an undefeated New England champion in free fighting and cement-breaking competitions during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

In 1972, Jim returned to Canada and opened his own martial arts school. More recently, he founded and operated the First Nations Tribal Justice Institute, the first independent, all-Aboriginal training institute in Canada.
