EventsNotary Clinic

Notary Clinic

9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Alderney Gate Public Library

Description

Many people in Nova Scotia find it challenging to access notary services, due to affordability, lack of availability in their community, or simply not knowing where to go.

The Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia is hoping to help address this access to justice issue by providing appointment-based, free notary services at the Library.

At these free clinics, notaries can witness signatures and certify true copies of documents. For example:

  • Certifying copies of passports or birth certificates for immigration purposes.
  • Witnessing affidavits relating to court proceedings.
  • Witnessing statutory declarations required by Canada Revenue Agency, the Department of Community Services, or other government agencies.

Each appointment is 15 minutes in length. Two lawyers will be at the clinic, and registration availability is in 10-minute increments.

Registrants will need to bring:

  • Photo ID
  • Documents to be notarized
  • A support person or translator if needed

Walk-ins are welcome, as time permits. Any walk-ins must have their photo ID and documents with them.

Please note: The lawyers will not be able to help people prepare legal documents at these clinics.
