Really! These three witches only stay alive by sucking the life out of children. Plenty of special effects and hambone acting, but no humor. This gives Disney family entertainment a bad name. Not recommended.
I notice that two previous commenters call it "cheesy." They say that like it was a _good_ thing.
I just watched this for the first time and I loved it! A Great funny movie for the whole family. Bette Midler at her best!
This delivered exactly what I wanted: some cheesy 90's reminiscence , a cute story-line, and fun characters. I also like that the main message is about sibling love, very wholesome indeed!
If I could offer up a one sentence review: More hocus, less pocus. Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker (SJP), and Kathy Nimjay are three witch sisters executed in old timey Salem. Three centuries later they return on Halloween night! Can the plucky teens stop them? Since it's Disney, nothing is too scary or freaky. Fun for the whole family.
This is my absolute favorite movie to watch around Halloween! The hilarity, adventure and fun is perfect for the whole family. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will forever live as the legendary Sanderson sisters!
Classic goodness! I watched this movie in theatres back in 1993, and I still love it today!
I borrowed this DVD from my school back in 2012. You did not have this movie before.
I don't know why everyone always talks about how much they like this movie. The acting is atrocious. I was cringing the entire time and I couldn't wait until it was finished.
One of my all time favorite movies to watch on Halloween! It has something that everyone can love.
A Halloween classic featuring three not-too-scary-but-often-entertaining witches bringing mayhem to Salem in their efforts to stay alive by sucking the life-force out of Salem's children. Amazingly, I never saw this one as a child, and watching it as an adult, I couldn't decide whether I would have been frightened by it--as I was by "Ghost Busters II"--or thought this was the greatest Halloween movie ever. My favorite parts were the cat and Allison's sweater--yay '90's style!
Easy, fun, sometimes funny, enjoyable Halloween movie. Not a horror or scary movie, not for adults, although some may enjoy it. (We watch it every year around Halloween.) Also not for very young children.
Never saw this on cable or regular TV (even on VHS!) in the 90's. Thought this Halloween would give it a go. I believe the hype set me up for disappointment. Serviceable Halloween kiddie fare. Nothing too scary, although the bus driver scene(s) threw in some subtle adult banter that might raise eyebrows with some alert parents.
This is one of those movies you have to watch around Halloween! Some locations in the movie were actually filmed in Salem, which gives an authentically spooky feel to the story. Just as good as when I was a kid!
This is a classic 90s movie but fun for Halloween. Try to watch it every year in October.
Chockfull of the usual sentimentality and pretend peril Disney is famous for, "Hocus Pocus" plays more like a theme park attraction than a motion picture with Parker and Najimy hamming it up as if waiting for a third stooge and Midler in full hag drag delivering a family friendly version of her Divine Miss M schtick. However, despite the foolish pratfalls and cloying sweetness there are a few decent chuckles that rise above the primary school level and the special effects are certainly passable—Najimy flying through the air on an old Hoover was a particularly nice touch. A seasonal cult mainstay guaranteed not to give the little ones nightmares nor tax grandma’s pacemaker.
Just as hilarious as I remembered. A great family movie but maybe not for really young kids....
This movie is a classic! If your kids have somehow Not seen it, you must be breaking some kind of unspoken law. Anyhow get it, they will LOVE it!
This is a verry funny movie!
I love to watch it at halloween, it is a fun filled family movie.
