However the author (who is the wife of a country vet!) chose to play the "urban girl in the country" trope; being appalled that animals poop, that surgery includes blood, and that vets get called out at all hours during lambing season. It is written as if that is cute, but it is totally unrealistic, jarring, and in the end really annoying.
