""The dog came back." "This is a joke, right?" "No, it isn't. . . . So do you want to hear the rest of it?" Dumbly, Jury nodded. The rest of it is told by Harry Johnson, a stranger who sits down next to Richard Jury as he's drinking in a London pub called the Old Wine Shades. Over three successive nights Harry spins this complicated story about a good friend of his whose wife and son (and dog) disappeared one day as they were viewing property in Surrey. They've been missing for nine months--no trace, no clue, no lead as to what happened. He's a fascinating bloke, this Harry Johnson--rich, handsome, unattached, and brainy about the esoteric subject of quantum mechanics, a field in which the vanished woman's husband, Hugh Gault, excels: He's an authority on string theory, which has some pretty funny notions about the nature of reality. Jury wonders, Is Harry Johnson winding him up? Or did it really happen? The dog did come back--but how? And from where? And when Jury investigates, all seems to be just as Harry described it. Until they find the body."--Inside jacket.

I can't think why I used to enjoy Martha Grimes. Between all the incessant chat in pubs and the dog's perspective, this was almost unreadable. I persevered, with a lot of judicious skimming, only to reach the end and realize that it wasn't worth it.

A very entertaining read!

It certainly has Dimensions!
If you have a passing interest in theorectical physics, this will be a treat.
Melrose as Niels Bohr!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this leap into quantum realities.
Only thing I wonder about is this: the author has the true believer of all the theories as mad as a hatter-mmmm.
I think Ms. Grimes was Stringing us along.

Have enjoyed Jury books in the past, but this was a huge disappointment. Simply dreadfull, boring! Brought the book back after wasting my time reading the first third of it. I DO NOT recommend this book!

Other Jury books are a treat but not this one. Don't know what Grimes was thinking but whatever it was, it wasn't about this plot. Would not recommend this read.

I think perhaps a little imagination may just lead to good things. These books get significantly better if you give them a chance. "Jury" has depth and the writing is very sound, the mystery surprising, and over all very entertaining, especially if you have a thing for London. Give Grimes the benefit of a least three reads.

I was enjoying this until the dog started telling the tale! It was all downhill from there. My first and last Martha
