"Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to Cabaret. The winner of eight Academy Awards, it boasts a score by the legendary songwriting partnership behind another film that would energize the movie musical genre with equal razzle-dazzle 30 years later: Chicago's John Kander andiFred Ebb. Inside theiKit Kat Club of 1931 Berlin, starry-eyed singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) and an impish emcee (Joel Grey) sound the clarion call to decadent fun, while outside a certain political party grows into a brutal force. Cabaret caught lightning )and won Oscars) for Minnelli, Grey and director Bob Fosse, who shaped a triumph of style and substance. Come to this Cabaret, old chum. You'll never want to leave."--Container.

Liza Minnelli is absolutely amazing as Sally Bowles in this film! Not to mention Joel Grey reprises his role as the MC. Having seen the Broadway version, however, I'm not happy with all the changes they made. It seems that musicals made into movies from that era always had that problem - they changed the story line to "On the Town" and "Carousel" as well. Sigh.....

GREAT 1972 film which won 8 Academy Awards - and deserved them. Lisa Minelli is particularly enchanting and does some fine dancing. Joel Grey is terrific as impish MC at interesting setting at 1931 Berlin's Kit Kat Klub.

*Movie quote* - "Divine decadence!"

OK. Aside from Liza Minnelli's somewhat abrasive singing and her hideous eye make-up, as well - (Along with the story containing some totally unwelcome Nazi-glorification in its "Tomorrow Belongs To Me" sequence) - I certainly thought that, for the most part, 1972's "Cabaret" was one of the better Musical/Drama/Comedy pictures that I've seen in some time.

Set in Berlin (circa 1931) - Cabaret's best moments were, of course, its well-staged musical numbers (choreographed by director, Bob Fosse). It was especially showstoppers like "Maybe This Time" and "Mein Herr" (*watch video-clip*) that were the real standouts.

A winner of 8 Academy Awards - Cabaret was a fairly stylish and socially conscious production. And, believe it, or not - (Included in Cabaret's story of ruthless gold-digging and dreams of "being a somebody") - It also featured one of the first-ever mixed-gender love triangles to be seen in a mainstream, Hollywood picture.

GREAT 1972 movie starring Liza Minnelli at age 26. I recently gave a listen to one of Liza's music CDs - she's a talented singer. Now I see what a terrific actress she is, too. Must be quite a help (and a challenge) to be the daughter of a superstar like Judy Garland.
Fascinating film setting in Berlin's vaudevillian Kit Kat Klub in 1931 with so many emerging political/economic/social/cultural changes.
Lots of excellent accompanying actors, etc. too; I particularly enjoyed Joel Grey as EmCee - he lit up the screen in all his numerous spots.

Berlin in the 1930's, and you are in the smoke-filled Kit-Kat Cabaret. This 40-year old film continues to retain its magic over time. The backdrop depicting the rise of Nazism in Germany provides an interesting undercurrent amid the singing, dancing, and love affairs.

Brilliant performances and music. Entertaining, but also uncomfortable at some points, so not a movie for kids...
