"A dysfunctional family reunion between a college professor, his long-estranged son and the lover they both shared. Two petty pickpockets who attempt to rob a black belt in karate. A dimwitted soccer hooligan whose wife buys a baby in a pawnshop. These are just a few of the unconnected strangers who find a common connection in the award-winning new comedy from the director of Divided We Fall. Winner of five Czech Lion Awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress, Up and Down is a 'stirring comedy, too good to be missed!' (Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal)."--Container.

This film from the Czech Republic covers the life of several individuals and families, including one from 'down-under'. It is meant to be a comedy, and some of the characters are fairly interesting. However, as a whole the films lacks coherence and failed to engage me. Perhaps some good editing can improve the viewing. As it stands, I consider it a misfire.

A slow building comedy (it starts off with human smuggling but next thing you know, you're giggling!) about a bunch of slightly quirky individuals. Pretty good. Don't let the low budget DVD case fool you. The movie is full budget quality.
