"Meet Jerry Dandridge. He’s sweet, sexy, and he likes to sleep in late. You might think he’s the perfect neighbor. But before inviting Jerry in for a nightcap, there’s just one thing you should know: Jerry prefers his drinks warm, red - and straight from the jugular! It’s Fright Night, a horrific howl starring Chris Sarandon as the seductive vampire and William Ragsdale as the frantic teenager struggling to keep Jerry’s deadly fangs out of his neck. Only 17-year-old Charley Brewster (Ragsdale) knows Jerry’s bloodcurdling secret. When Charley can’t get anybody to believe him, he turns to TV horror host, Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who used to be the 'Great Vampire Killer' of the movies. Can these mortals save Charley and his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse) from the wrathful bloodsucker’s toothy embrace? If you loved being scared, Fright Night will give you the nightmare of your life!"--Container.

Some parodies are hilarious. This, however, was not. This was too stupid to be funny, and the acting was third rate.

Made in 1985, so the dated monster effects are forgivable, the thin plot and wooden acting are not. If you're into camp, this may be enjoyable. If you're looking for actual horror, not. (There is an unintentionally creepy factor in Chris Sarandon--age 43--attempting to seduce/convert the hero's 17-year old girlfriend.)

Silly, campy, fun. Not scary by any accounts, but would be fun to show to a 10 year old to get them into the genre.

I saw this at the drive in originally, and loved it! I really enjoyed the actors in this movie, they did a great job. Roddy McDowell was wonderful as the TV host of Fright Night the late night horror show, who is dragged into the vampire hunt by the teenagers. I enjoyed the scene where they confront the master vampire who is at the top of the staircase, and he announces it's fright night, for real. Charlie the young hero steps up and proves the WW1 adage: there are no atheists in the fox hole. His faith powers the cross when Peter's falters. Peter recharges, and then battle to the death scenes, particularly enjoyed the zombie watchers death. Chris Sarandon made a great vampire. The new remake is not as good despite all the special effects.

Ridiculously bad writing.

And a terrible "romance" where he alternates between pressuring her for sex and ignoring her.

Ahhhh, the original. Don't get me wrong, i really enjoyed the remke with Colin Farrell, i even own it... But the original has something almost organic to it... perhaps it's because i grew up in the 80's and all these movies remind me of that 'coming of age' period. Regardless, if you like the 80's period films and you haven't seen this one. I think you'd get a kick out of it..(and as a side note, i actually preferred the movie "Vamp".. Grace Jones was AMAZING... just sayin.)

Ahhh. A good old vampire movie gets to me everytime. I enjoyed this movie and found it funny and a little scary. I don't have many vampire movies in my collection but i've added this one and love it.
I recommend you watch this on your HOMETHEATER. The sound won't blow you away but it's more entertaining with your system. My friend that enjoys talking back to the screen had a ball with this movie. She wouldn't shut up but that's a good sign. I enjoyed it as well and liked all the characters. Very good vampire movie. That's why i'm giving this movie 5 stars!!!! Good story, likable characters, and good horror. Large glass of milk, Peperidge Farms "Tahiti" cookies. (if you can find them) Oreos, Dip them in milk.
