The story’s a bit thin but it goes along fine until about 75% through when the storyline gets quite silly and very difficult to relate to; I would not read another of his books and I have no idea about where one UK reviewer might have gotten the idea that the book is “a deadpan little gem of a book”.

A well-liked owner of a large company meets her death in a strange accident. Is it truly a happenstance of factors or was this a planned murder by her unfaithful husband? Now that he is fantastically wealthy and free to indulge in his affairs he seems a likely killer. Employee Jupp Scholten is certain of that and obsesses about how the murder may have been accomplished.

People thought it was an accident....It wasn't suicide either.
