The stories in this series move a little slowly, but are interesting for their uniqueness. The writing is rather formal, always referring to the characters by their full names with titles. Everyone is very polite, for the most part. But it does give us a glimpse into life in Botswana, which is so different from our own.

A fine follow-up to the debut in this series. I enjoy Mma Ramotswe's detection above all, but the plot lines surrounding her engagement and J.L.B.'s pseudo-adoption of two children from the "orphan farm" also captured my interest. I enjoy these books every now and again between the heavier stuff.
