"In the mid-18th Century, as England and France battle over control of Canada, an epic romance between a peasant woman and a trapper unfurls. As their passionate destiny advances inexorably, driven by fate, it mirrors another story that's already been written: France's abandonment of Canada."--Container (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment ed.)

Love, hate, patriotism, disloyal, racism are all the emotions displayed in this movie about the war time between English, French and mainly among French people in the area around Quebec when the French conquerors became conquered. The love between two simple people who must make a choice between being content to lay low and been unnoticed or let the man to go to France seeking help. This movie is very excellent in showing many possible tragedies of war without being exaggerate or over dramatize the unfortunate events.
