"Mankind's ultimate adventure is now the ultimate DVD experience! This digitally remastered edition, presented with its best-ever sound, two audio commentaries and more, is the definitive presentation of the Oscar®-winning Planet of the Apes - one of the most riveting and influential sci-fi films ever made. Charlton Heston stars as Taylor, an astronaut who crash-lands on a mysterious world where intelligent apes rule...and hunt primitive, speechless humans for sport. Soon, Taylor's life depends on the kindness of the chimpanzee scientists Cornelius and Zira (Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter) and his escape to the Forbidden Zone, where he uncovers an earth-shattering secret that may hold the key to his own destiny."--Container.

This is the second time I have watched this and I still found it good. The ending leaves me wondering if the astronaut should have stayed on the planet and not try to get back home. The monkeys on the planet they landed on where actually the descendants from the ones that escaped the scientist. Then the reverse role happened. The astronaut had travel through time through the magnetic storm. He ended up on the planet 1000 years after the home shipped had crashed but did not age a day. To him it was only 3 days. So you also get into that weird discussion of time travel and if you could travel the speed of light you would end up going faster than time. Einstein theory of time.

I remember seeing this in the theater with friends and laughing the whole time about how terrible it was.

This original version of the movie is from 1968 and shows the complex issues that arise when apes develop heightened mental ability and begin to take over the world. After astronauts find themselves on a new planet where apes are in charge and humans are slaves, they become trapped themselves and are shocked to discover that these apes talk, walk on hind legs, have a political system, and even have a class system. This thriller film raises important issues and is fascinating to watch, especially for it’s time. I would rate this movie 4/5 stars and recommend it to lover’s of classic films. @The_Reviewer of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library

Even Charlton Heston couldn't sink this'n, ( I love to bash him) with a script by Rod Serling and just nimble enough direction from Franklin Schaffer. Heston had worked with him in The War Lord, which also had Maurice (Dr. Zaius) Evans. Wish that one was in the catalog at KCPL.

This was a very good move we enjoyed it as much as the 1st one. After watching the show we viewed the added DVD that showed how the movie was made and that was terrific. Learned a lot and appreciate all the work that went into the movies production. I give it a full 4 star rating to get a 5 from me it has to be out of this world.

I thought this movie would be good when I got it, but it was terrible. It was boring, unenjoyable and it felt like it was mocking religion.

When this movie came out I avoided it because I could not imagine myself watching a movie where chimps were running the world. This evening we watched and found it to be entertaining. Look forward to watching the next two.

George Taylor: Imagine me needing someone. Back on Earth I never did. Oh, there were women. Lots of women. Lots of love-making but no love. You see, that was the kind of world we'd made. So I left, because there was no one to hold me there.
