Rose cannot accept the medical diagnosis that her daughter, who suffers nightmarish trances, is going insane. Over the protests of her husband, Rose flees with their child, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill. There, Rose is hoping that Sharon's traces can be explained. It is revealed that the town had been evacuated thirty years earlier due to an unstoppable, still burning underground coal fire. A local motorcycle cop ends up pursuing Rose and Sharon into the outskirts of the abandoned and cordoned off town on a rainy night, where they both suffer simultaneous crashes and black out. Rose awakens to find that everything is lit by an unearthly, luminous mist and that her daughter is gone from her SUV. Following what she thinks is her daughter's silhouette all over town, Rose is lured to a group of horrific creatures and blacks out again to the sound of a wailing emergency siren.

Incredibly dumb adaptation of the Konami horror video game Silent Hill. The video game's plot didn't make much sense, and makes even less sense for a feature film.

A Christian-like cult attempts to burn a child they think is a witch, only it backfires, and the girl bands with a supernatural dark force to damn the town, while creating a split "good" version of herself that's sent into the world and adopted by caring parents, only to call that child back to the damned town for what purpose I'm still not sure.

Mostly it's the mom running around looking for her child, yelling, "Sharon!" over and over. Why the mom wouldn't lock her sleepwalking child in her room, or try to get help via traditional medicine BEFORE driving to the creepy town defies logic.

Some interesting creature design and visuals, but most of the scenes add up to nothing and could be cut (it's over 2 hours long). If you really want to see where those cool costumes you see at Comic-Con come from, check it out, but otherwise, skip this one.

One of the best videogame-to-film transitions I've seen in a really long time. Full of gorgeous, eerie visuals, it captures the atmosphere of the games perfectly. I'm not sure how much sense people who haven't played the games will make out of it, however. The plot is a little thin at times, and makes much more sense if you've played the games. Definitely worth seeing for anyone who's played them!

This will probably always be my favorite horror movie of all time. The sets, characters, and graphics were all beautiful and did great homage to the series of video games that the movie is based off of. Very artistic and intriguing.

Easily my favorite horror movie/series in existence. Based on the hit Japanese video game, comes possibly the greatest horror story ever told.

One of the best films I have seen in this year. It was entertaining and interesting. Great performances a must see for all. Truly a really great movie worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. Well worth the price of admission to any theater.

I've never played the video game, so I can't compare it to that. However, after just seeing the movie as just a movie, as opposed to an adaptation, I loved it. Truly creepy and it gets under your skin. The cinematography is great and the creatures are reminiscent of a Guillermo del Toro film.

I enjoy reading magazines such as Sound&Vision,HomeTheater, and The Absolute Sound. In one of the magazines this film was reviewed. The one thing that stood out in the review was "good sound effects" bad movie. So one day while standing on line in Duane Reade i saw this movie on sale for $5.00. ATTENTION HOMETHEATER OWNERS WHO LOVE SOUND!!! Treat yourself to some very scary, very cool sounds in this fillm. This movie may be a little silly, which is what my lady friend said, but when it comes to sound and creatures this movie ROCKS!!!... I really liked the way many creatures in this movie looked. And the sound was impressive. My friend jumped on one scene when the character Rose, who's running after her daughter in this weird town, goes down these flight of stairs. You'll hear the sound of this crazy alarm that has a serious bass sound and then it turns dark. That caught my friend way off guard. That's when all the scary creatures appear. Totally cool!!! Your speakers will make you feel like you are there. With all kinds of scary sounds from the creatures coming through your surrounds speakers. We didn't like the ending it was a little corny, but the creatures scared my friend. This one creature with a head the shape of a pyramid, who i believe was called "The RED PYRAMID" was OFF THE HOOK!!! He was my favorite scary character. The sound of him dragging that very, very, very large knife across the floor gave my friend the creeps. She liked the "nurses" which were cool. I give this movie 4 and half stars. For off the hook creatures, excellent sound effects, very good visuals effects, and an ok story. Pastrami on whole wheat bread, with pickles,Gulden mustard, olives, a few slices of roast beef, and large crinkle cut fries. Root beer.

Rose: Honey, sometimes when you go to sleep you go on a little walk. And sometimes you talk about a place called Silent Hill.
Sharon: I don't remember.
Rose: That's okay honey, that's why we're gonna go there. So you can remember.
