Well made and an exceptionally good story here. This film has a lot of heart.

Nina: Do you know who I am?
Bella: You're my mama.

This is a little gem of a movie. One reviewer here gave it a 1/2 star review, and left a disparaging quote from a New "Yawk" Times (well, whoop-dee-do) reviewer, which I guess was meant to discourage people from seeing the movie or to shame me into thinking that I was some silly rube for enjoying it? Well, this film is enchanting from beginning to end. An original screenplay/story (for me, anyway) that is revealed and unveiled slowly, as the movie progresses. Flashbacks help put the pieces of the puzzle together. Family, love and friendship take center stage, and the cast is excellent. And yes, I was teary-eyed at the end and smiling. A movie not to be missed. (The song "Meet me by the Water," by Rachael Yamagata plays during the closing credits).

I was really disappointed in this movie. I was hoping for a romantic movie, but after the first few minutes, it was like I was watching a straight drama. No romance to be seen at all. Much too dark for my taste and it was hard to follow the storyline.

Here's what the New York Times reviewer had to say about Bella:
It is not hard to see why “Bella,” a saccharine trifle directed by Alejandro Monteverde, won the People’s Choice Award at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. This is a movie that wears its bleeding heart on its sleeve and loves its characters to distraction. Nothing — not even significant plot glitches and inconsistencies — is allowed to get in the way of its bear-hugging embrace of sweetness and light.

5 Stars
when life feels like its crushing down on you, when the future is dismal, there will always be someone or something that walks by with hope that reminds us all that life is beautiful . A little film called Bella reminds us of that.
ps : great soundtrack

I didn't expect it could be so good!

Beautifully moving pro-life movie. A rare gem, when the absolute majority of movies portray abortion, never the other side. Worth watching, even by the pro-abortion crowd—it doesn’t hurt to sometimes listen to the other side, just for a change. ;-)

Terrible corny movies that seemed to have been made to only focus on the main male and female actors. The story was tragic but for no good reason. Don't understand how it won so many awards . . .

This movie absolutely deserves all the awards it has printed on its cover! It was very real and heartwarming. I cried and the only movies I cry during are the ones about holocausts etc . . . Acting was good, characters weren't flat, the flashbacks and forward were artfully placed. It made me want to go out for tacos.
