I absolutely loved this book and I've been searching/waiting for the next book. I can't wait!!!

I picked this up because of the cool cover and almost put it down again when the last line of the preface was "I was utterly, irrecoverably in love with him" "Not another Twilight wanna-be!" I thought to myself, but rest assured, that's as close as it gets. This book reads mor like LKH (Laurell K Hamilton) than Stephanie Meyer.

Meet Riley Poe - former teenage junkie - who has cleaned up her act and now owns and operates a tattoo parlour (Inksomniac) while she raises her teenage brother Seth. When Seth and his friends break into the Bonadventure Cemetary, they release two ancient, evil vampires (not the sparkly kind, but ones with jaws that dislocate and mouthfuls of fangs that try to ripe the heart out of your chest - literally). Seth and his buddies are now undergoing the quickening - the transformation from human to vampire - very much like in Lost Boys (a movie actually referenced in the book). Riley consults with her Gullah neighbour and surrogate granfather Preacher, who introduces her to the Dupres - another vampire family, but good ones who have learned to control the bloodlust. The Dupres agree to help protect Riley, try to capture the evil Arcos vampires and save Seth. Riley will butt heads and hearts with the eldest son Eli as the story unfolds.

It was an interesting first book, but I'll need to read the sequel since there are some interesting plot threads left to be explore.
