"Piet Hoffman, a top secret operative for the Swedish police, is about to embark on his most dangerous assignment yet: after years spent infiltrating the Polish mafia, he's become a key player in their attempt to take over amphetamine distribution inside Sweden's prisons. To stop them from succeeding, he will have to go deep cover, posing as a prisoner inside the country's most notorious jail. But when a botched drug deal involving Hoffman results in a murder, the investigation is assigned to the brilliant but haunted Detective Inspector Ewert Grens--a man who never gives up until he's cracked the case. Grens's determination to find the killer not only threatens to expose Hoffman's true identity-it may reveal even bigger crimes involving the highest levels of power. And there are people who will do anything to stop him from discovering the truth."--Publisher.

Long and complicated. I read this because I had already read the second of the series, that being "Three Hours" (I think). I wanted to see how the characters in #2 got to where they were based on the events in this one. The second was the best in my opinion. Will probably read the next one assuming another is published. I have not checked to see if that has happened. I am guessing it would be called "Three Days"?

For me, their book Cell 8 was great & Box 21 was very good.
But this one for me was frustrating to read - somewhat repetitive & over long and just not easy to get through because not clear & concise enough - sometimes dialog that I wasn't sure who was speaking. A good story that I wished was just told simply.

Swedish noir in a gritty world of drug dealers, informants, and convicts. The pacing is masterfully constructed, but a straightforward plot doesn't leave much room for mystery.

A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "This is a suspense-filled thriller originally published in Swedish. It involves undercover police work and the efforts of an investigator named Ewert Grens to unravel a crime while others are trying to cover up official involvements. The climax of the story leads you to the edge of your seat as explosions rock a notorious jail."

Excellent book, with a great main character--Ewart Grens. He is methodical and gets the answer to the mystery in his own way. Well written.

Portions of book about police procedure except content more interesting than Larsson's last 2 books, which related to police procedure and at times quite boring. Gripping story. Characters were better defined than Larsson's characters as well.

It's like Traffic on the Swedish-Polish border, but everything from the weather to the criminals' hearts is a little colder.

Three Seconds was named Sweden's top crime novel of 2009.

Hoping for another Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," New Regency has acquired Three Seconds, the fifth novel in a bestselling Swedish crime novel series by Anders Roslund and Bonge Hellstrom. The author team is intriguing - one's a former journalist, the other an ex-criminal.
