"He was a survivor - a wanderer who traded tales for food and shelter in the dark and savage aftermath of a devastating war. But when he borrows the jacket of a long-dead postal worker, his life changes forever. As he journeys from one isolated community to the next, the old, worn uniform becomes far more than a protection against the unrelenting cold: it becomes a reminder of how things were before the world collapsed - and a symbol for how things might be again. And his story becomes one of a lie that turns into the most important kind of truth. Against a background of global failure, THE POSTMAN is a powerful and affecting novel of the survival of the human spirit."--Back cover.

Among the top apocalyptic books ever published. If you're a fan of the genre, this is a must read.

A lone man is wandering the country after war and disease have wrecked the world. He is looking for a pocked of civilization, someone who is taking responsibility. Am I the last of the Idealists? He asks. Finally he decides to start making the change he has been searching for; building the idea he had hoped to find. This was a compelling story of a man looking for something to believe in in the barbaric times of survival. I loved Gordon as a hero; a man who would follow any good leader but who ends up a leader himself. I have enjoyed all of David Brin’s other books and now add this one to the list.

Very different from the 1997 movie adaptation with Kevin Costner. The movie is lightly based on the book.

The Postman ---- By David Brin c - 1997, read earlier printing c - ? ---- This is a near end of the world story, where a man many years after that, makes an effort to rekindle relations in the U.S. and Canada. ---- I really enjoyed the book and the Movie: which are both well done. ---- Enjoy! ----
