"There are few industrialists in history who could match Elon Musk's relentless drive and ingenious vision. A modern alloy of Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, and Steve Jobs, Musk is the man behind PayPal, Tesla Motors, SpaceX, and SolarCity, each of which has sent shock waves throughout American business and industry. More than any other executive today, Musk has dedicated his energies and his own vast fortune to inventing a future that is as rich and far-reaching as a science fiction fantasy. In this lively, investigative account, veteran technology journalist Ashlee Vance offers an unprecedented look into the remarkable life and times of Silicon Valley's most audacious businessman. Written with exclusive access to Musk, his family, and his friends, the book traces his journey from his difficult upbringing in South Africa to his ascent to the pinnacle of the global business world"--From publisher description.

"For Musk, the call to insure that mankind is an interplanetary species partly stems from a life richly influenced by science fiction and technology. Equally, it's a moral imperative that dates back to his childhood. In some form, this has forever been his mandate. Each facet of Musk's life might be an attempt to sooth the type of existential depression that seems to naw at his every fibre. He sees man as self-limiting and imperil, and wants to fix the situation."

This excerpt from the book perfectly sums up the extraordinary man who is single-handedly changing the world. The saying that one person can't change the world doesn't hold up when talking about Elon Musk.

This book is a great read and covers so much about the man and his life, from his childhood in South Africa, to both his marriages, his ups and downs over the years (both personal and professional), and his involvement in Tesla, SpaceX (his baby), SolarCity and the proposed Hyperloop in California.

I don't want to sound like a fangirl, but I'd totally follow Elon Musk to Mars! The book is also a very in depth and honest look at Silicon Valley and has interviews from industry big shots. I loved how comprehensive it was and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in solving mankind's biggest obstacles. I'll end my review with another excerpt from the book involving Larry Page and what he thinks of Elon Musk:

"Page holds Musk up as a model he wishes others would emulate, a figure that should be replicated during a time when the business men and politicians have fixated on short-term, inconsequential goals. "I don't think we're doing a good job as a society deciding what things are really important to do." Page said."

This is one of those books I really wanted to listen to because of the content. I wasn't particularly keen on the writing style, but it's well worth the time. Also, well read, which is always a bonus.
