I read this book a number of times when I was growing up (I've always been as much a re-reader as a reader), and I wanted to give it another go to see if it would hold up to my memory. Thankfully, it's just as beautiful and poignant as I remember.
Laura is 14 and right on the cusp of womanhood. She's very aware of her changing body and her changing status in the world in the way that real girls certainly are, and most YA heroines aren't. When her brother is attacked by a malevolent spirit, she turns to a witch for help - a boy named Sorensen Carlisle.
The Changeover is beautifully written and poetic, it's characters crisply defined and strikingly realistic. I recommend this one very highly for the YA readers who might otherwise be picking up something like Twilight.

I purchased this book in Middle School from a book fair (about 23 years ago) and loved it. I have read it multiple times and it still has that feeling of magic for me. The romance between Sorry and Laura is akin to that of Bella and Edward in the Twilight series. It's definitely one of those books where you like the characters so much that you wish the book were longer so that you could see them develop over time. I would recommend it as a quick and enjoyable read for just about anyone 12+ years old.
