Death of a Dreamer

a Hamish Macbeth Mystery
Feb 25, 2016zipread rated this title 4 out of 5 stars
Death of a Dreamer --- by --- M.C. Beaton. For sometime now, I’ve been a fan of M.C. I don’t know how that came to be but I am glad it did. She writes the most delightful murder mysteries: either involving private eye Agatha Raisin and set in the Cotswolds or featuring Hamish Macbeth in Sunderland, northern Scotland. Well, Dreamer features constable MacBeth, a bright copper alright, so bright that he doesn’t want to leave “his” village of Lochdubh for the flesh pots of Glasgow. So while he solves the crime (there isn’t much in his village) he is always careful to throw the credit on someone else. Beaton’s characters are credible: what they do is real. They have broken hearts and they listen to too much gossip. Open this book in an easy chair by the fire, fetch a draw of whisky (for authenticity) and enjoy an evening or two with Hamish.
