Turtles all the Way Down by John Green has become one of my favourite books by far. Green delves deep into the mind of a teenager, showing readers what life can be like with serious mental health issues such as anxiety and OCD. Aza, the protagonist uses the word “spiral” a lot throughout the book - which could make one think. It seems that Aza has been hypnotized by the ongoing spiral in her head - she will always fall back to the racing thoughts in her mind, that all attach to her mental health. It follows two plots in my opinion - romance and mystery. Although the main idea throughout the book is to solve the mystery of where Russell Pickett is, Aza does find herself falling somewhat in love with Davis, Russell’s eldest son. Overall the book was written very well going through ups and downs between Aza and Davis’ lives. I would recommend it to a teen demographic, 14+. I think the final takeaway from this book is to let life run its course, it will get better one day. Although you are struggling right now, who says in a few months, you won’t rise; that you won’t overcome your battle? @tigercats04 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
