Cindy Styles was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, and raised on the west coast with stops in both Stephenville and Corner Brook. In 2011, she became a founding member of the newly acknowledged Qalipu Mi'kmaq First Nation Band of Newfoundland and Labrador. She was honouring the heritage of her mother, her parents, her grandparents, their parents, her great-grandparents, and her great-great-grandparents.
